MUSIC VIDEOS

DIRECTOR + PRODUCER

As a visual storyteller I love music videos. Heck, I was a kid in the 80’s, so of course I loved MTV when it came on the scene. That kid would never have imagined that he would end up directing videos. Here are a few of my favorites from back in the day.

Alan Jackson - Country Boy

I loved the old trucks and TV’s. The movement the boom and steadicam offered gave this one great energy.

Brad Paisley - The World

Hey Stranger Things fans, Does the older sister look familiar? That’s right, it’s Natalia Dyer, who did an amazing job portraying Nancy Wheeler in Stranger things. She was a total pro even back then. The little sister who goes on the adventure did such a great job too. Fun fact, the world beach balls were used at every Brad show for years.

Tim McGraw - Something Like That

This was pretty early in Tim’s career and he was playing all kinds of venues. We thought it would be fun to capture a variety of shows and mix them together. I have always loves a stylized transition, so the quick pans and the morphed screens gave it a little flare. Speaking of flare I added most of the lens flares in post. Yup, back in the day I would shoot, edit and do the graphics. I did the screen morphs too.

Alan Jackson - I Still Like Bologna

When casting the lead (young Alan Jackson) a little dud named Jet Jurgensmeyer blew me away. He was 5 as I recall. We were thinking 7 would be a more attentive age, but this kid had “it” whatever “it” is. We rolled the dice, pairing him with Sharaya Davies to play Alan’s wife Denise. The kids were magic and we had an amazing time. I’m pleased that I stay in touch with both of them to this day.

P.S. Directing a video with 35 children is a crazy idea… but the kids were great and it worked!

BRAD PAISLEY - SHE'S EVERYTHING

Do you have any idea how fast the moon sets? Fast! We fought hard to line it up with the bus on that amazing bridge on the Natchez Trace. It was fun to work with Brad’s wife Kim, they are a great couple.

Shania Twain - Honey I’m Home

I didn’t direct this one, but I did produce it. A huge highlight for me was spending a week in the edit bay with her then husband/producer Mutt Lange. The creative force behind so much of the music I grew up with (Def Leppard & more) I found him to be fascinating.

Alan Jackson - Sissy’s Song

This one had some real feelings behind it. Alan wrote this song for a dear friend of the family that they lost suddenly. It was nominated for an award, but I can’t remember which one. I do remember sitting at the awards show and noting that Stephen Curtis Chapman was sitting on the aisle. I figured they put hime there because he had won, and sure enough he won the category. Oh well, it was fun to attend. I was honored to help Alan memorialize his dear friend.
